FreeMo isn't just an idea or a proof of concept. It's running today, locally controlling real legacy WeMo devices and bringing them into the modern smart-home ecosystem through Matter.
Here's what that looks like in the real world.
This is the hardware behind the FreeMo setup: a Raspberry Pi running FreeMo, two real legacy WeMo devices—Christmas Tree and Closet—and two phones showing FreeMo and Google Home side by side.
On both screens, the same devices appear in the same states: Christmas Tree is on, and Closet is off.

FreeMo is controlling two generations of real WeMo hardware. Even the physical devices reflect the same states shown above. Christmas Tree's illuminated blue state indicator shows that it is on, while Closet's unlit power button shows that it is off—the same states shown in both FreeMo and Google Home.
FreeMo brings these legacy WeMo devices into the modern smart-home ecosystem through Matter. The legacy WeMo devices remain under local FreeMo control while also becoming available through Matter in Google Home.
FreeMo does more than turn devices on and off. Expanding Device Info provides detailed information about each discovered WeMo device, including its manufacturer, model, serial number, MAC address, firmware, and device-reported signal strength. FreeMo also allows each device to be given its own persistent name using the Rename control, making legacy hardware easier to identify and manage.
What you've seen here is FreeMo working today with real legacy WeMo hardware—controlling those devices locally while bridging them into the modern smart-home ecosystem through Matter.
